At 86 years old, he makes history in world mountaineering and fulfills his dream of returning to the mountain that saw him climb with the first Spanish expedition in 1975.
Carlos Soria reached the summit of Manaslu (8,163 m) in Nepal at 2:15 a.m. (Spanish time) on September 26.
CONGRATULATIONS CARLOS!!
Now comes the descent, and we continue to follow him closely from here. Javier Garrido, president of RSEA Peñalara, is in contact with Carlos’s team at base camp, where Pedro Mateo is located. Although communication with the high camps is difficult, we know that Carlos and Luis Miguel Soriano are reaching Camp 3 and will most likely be back at base camp on Saturday.
Once they arrive, they will spend a day or two in Sama, a village located at the foot of Manaslu that is very dear to Carlos, where his old friends live. Afterwards, they will begin their journey back home.
The weather has been good — Pedro comments that it’s the best window of good weather in many seasons — and the news from the summit has been truly exciting.
